Dual-language program at primary schools: good or bad idea ?

The 193 students in the dual-language program at the school in Silver Spring, the only program of its kind in Montgomery County, move between two rooms. In one, English is spoken; in the other, Spanish. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Pledge of Allegiance and announcements are in Spanish; on the other days, in English. This is the story of a school that serves as a bilingual program for English-speaking students whose parents want them to learn Spanish and for Spanish speakers who must learn English. Age: Teenagers / Adults
Level: High elementary / Pre-intermediate
Time: Approx. 60 minutes
Objective: To present and practise the first conditional using the topic of the World Cup
Key skills: Speaking, writing
Materials: One copy of the 2010 World Cup fixture chart per pair of students; one piece of blank paper per student; a football or picture of a football.
